Thanjavur of which Thiruvarur is a part is considered the seat of Carnatic music in Tamil Nadu. The Carnatic music tradition developed and flourished in this place. The club was founded to enable the students to get an exposure to the rich musical tradition in Thiruvarur. The ardent interest of students in learning the basics of Carnatic music led to the formation of the first club, namely, The Carnatic Music Club, on 1st October, 2010. Twenty students from across disciplines are now part of the club. The club which has elected office-bearers enrols members on payment of a small fee of Rs. 25/- Mrs. R. Vijayalakshmi conducts music classes twice a week (Friday and Saturday) for students, in the University's premises as part of the club's activities.
