CULTURAL CLUBS AND THEIR VISION FOR 2012-2013
To tap the hidden
talent of the students of CUTN and to promote and foster cultural activities on
the Campus, the following clubs were started to cater to the cultural and
creative needs of the students:·
Western
Dance and Music Club headed by Ms.
Monica Kanga, Dept. of English and assisted by Mr. Murali (Third I M. Sc.
Physics).
Indian
Classical Dance and Music Club
headed by Dr. V. Madhurima, Dept. of Physics and assisted by Miss. T. Sonia
(Third I M. Sc. Physics).
Drama
Club headed by Mr. George (Third I
M. Sc. Physics) and Miss. Dittakavi Nikhila (Third I M. Sc Physics).
Literary
and Book Discussion Club headed by
Prof. C. R. Lakshmanan, Dept. of English and assisted by Mr. Hashif (II M. A.
English) & Miss. Rohini Vijayan (I M. A. English).
Painting,
Sketching and Cartoon Club headed
by Dr. Sony Amrendra, Dept. of Chemistry and assisted by Mr. Ben (II M.A.
English) & Mr. Tejus R. Kartha (Second I M. Sc. Chemistry).
Debating
and Quiz Club headed by Dr. T.
Sengathir, Dept. of Mathematics.
Since their inception
the Clubs have been active, some vigorously and some with more than moderate
effort.
The Literary Club
took the lead by conducting an Inter-Class Poetry Reading Competition and is
all set to hold an Inter- Collegiate Poetry and Quiz Competition. CUTN must
reach out to and involve the students of the neighbouring institutions in all
their activities.
The Painting,
Sketching and Cartoon Club is just as active with Mr. Ben conducting coaching
classes for all aspirants who wish to wield the pencil/brush/charcoal. In his
quiet, unobtrusive way he is unearthing talent with latent aesthetic
sensibility.
The Western Dance and
Western Music Club is aggressively pushing ahead with its programmes and has
already show-cased its skills at the recently concluded cultural programme
conducted at the Conference hosted by the Chemistry Department.
The Drama Club is not
far behind as the students presented excerpts from several plays to regale the
audience that attended the above mentioned Conference. The club has already
started working towards holding the Inter-Collegiate/University Drama and
Poetry Competition which is held annually in the last week of February. Invitations
may be extended to the participants from the Central Universities located in
Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh in the future.
If one is to go by
the feedback hitherto received, the various Cultural Clubs are set to scale new
heights of excellence in the next few months.
CUTN strongly
believes in placing equal emphasis on Academic and Cultural Activities. This
would make for a holistic education. |
