The students, staff (teaching and non-teaching) along with the Registrar, Shri. V. K. Sridhar, welcomed the arrival of the Tamil month, Thai, with a grand celebration on 13 January, 2011. The harvest festival, Pongal, the much awaited festival of newness and celebration of agriculture, commenced in CUTN with the symbolic cooking of sweet rice in the University’s premises. A Kolam competition was arranged for the students and others having artistic talents in CUTN. Mr. and Mrs. Sridhar were the judges of the competition which had many entries of intricate designs in resplendent colours. Three winners were chosen and given prizes. The lunch which followed the occasion was a feast of joy which was much relished by everyone in the University.

The post lunch session included games such as Lucky number and breaking the Uri (the earthern pot) blind folded. Hosts of students and members of teaching and non-teaching staff participated in the games with gusto. Prizes were distributed to winners in both events. CUTN thus welcomed the festival of Pongal with games, competitions, food and plenty of goodwill and cheer.
